Acupuncture is a method of producing analgesia or altering the function of a system of the body by inserting fine, wire-thin needles into the skin on the body along a series of lines, or channels, called meridians. It is is just one of several therapies that constitute Traditional Chinese medicine or TCM.

TCM is an Asian system of healing that focuses on achieving internal balance. Traditional chinese medicine practitioners use methods such as acupuncture, heat application (moxibustion), herbal preparations and exercises (e.g., tai chi, qigong) to restore the flow of qi (vital energy) and the balance of yin and yang. Acupuncture can be useful in treatment of back and joint pain, headaches and migraine, digestive disorders and skin conditions.
