Summary

The website www.getselfhelp.co.uk has been around for almost 20 years in various forms and has become a highly respected source for information sheets on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well as other related resources. Carol Vivyan who runs the website has given WebHealer permission to create a simple plugin allowing WebHealer clients to very easily embed these guides into their websites.

Overview

The website getselfhelp.co.uk has offered guides at no charge for practicing therapists for over a decade. Predominantly created by the website owner Carol Vivyan who jointly won the 2015 British Journal of Nursing's Mental Health Nurse of the Year award, there are well over 100 guides covering subjects like.

  • Mindfulness
  • Stress Self Help
  • Sleep Self Help
  • Relaxation Tips
  • Dealing With Negative Emotions
  • Social Anxiety Self Help
  • Anger Self Help

Carol Vivyan has kindly given permission for WebHealer clients to put these guides onto their own websites so they can be downloaded by your clients. Here's an example and below we are going to show you how to create a page like this for your website in around 5 minutes.

Built into the WebHealer Editor

To make this very simple indeed Carol has given WebHealer permission to build these guides directly into the WebHealer editor, so with very little effort you can now pick over 25 of these guides from a list as shown below.

Quick Example

Adding these guides uses techniques that you are probably already familiar with, such as Linknotes and the <Q> formatting code. You can go and read more about Linknotes (Internal Links) and the <Q> (QuoteBoxes) now if these are new to you but we'd suggest you do that later.

First, as it is so easy to add these guides we'd suggest following the 4 steps shown below to make something like this example in just a few minutes.

Here are the 4 simple steps that will add the Relaxation Tips ebook to your website.

  1. Switch on Link notes if you have not already done so. Do this by logging into your Administration Area, choose Special Features under Site Management in the left hand menu, click Linknotes to On and Save Changes
  2. Choose a page to edit or allocate a new one called Client Downloads. Go to Style & Design under Site Management to add pages but for now let's just add this guide to an existing page.
  3. Create a new linknote, or if you are new to Linknotes, use the row starting @02 and type Relaxation Tips into the left field. To the right are some radio buttons - tick the right hand one which stands for "internal", then click the pull down list and choose Relaxation Tips (PDF).
  4. Put <Q B>@02</Q> in your editor. The <Q B> stands for a book-style QuickBox. Your screen should look a little like below before you then hit Save Changes

Exit the Administration Area now and you will see a single ebook like the example at the start.

Adding multiple downloads

To create multiple downloads, just add more link notes inside the <Q> code using the Add button at the bottom of the editor. Put them next to each other on a line in your editor or insert a new line to have multiple rows of downloads.  Here's an example of two rows of ebooks - the @ codes have already been set up in the linknotes section at the bottom.

<Q B>@02 @03 @04
@05 @06 @07</Q>

Please note

Carol Vivyan asks us to remind you that these guides are free for therapy use and that you should not charge for them. Also you will see that if you put your mouse over one of these guides it will pop up "(c) www.get.gg" which is the website's main address. There are other ways of putting these guides on your website, such as downloading the guide from Carol's website to your desktop then uploading it to your Image Library and displaying it like one of your own PDFs. Carol does give permission for this but requires that if you take that approach you should create a link to www.getselfhelp.co.uk with a credit mention.

More Information

If you'd like to be more comfortable about how Linknotes work see our EZ Guide on Internal Links. Another useful guide is our Client Downloads guide, which explains two different styling methods for downloads as well as how to create downloads of your own personally created handouts.
