This option has been created for clients with their own logo or distinctive trademark and who wish to incorporate it into the new Social ColourMax website platform. Social ColourMax features the latest mobile friendly technology with a fresh modern styling and handy dual column format, and allows for placement of a logo or feature image at the top of the right hand column. Many clients with a distinctive logo will however prefer a more prominent top left placement. Often this becomes surprisingly complicated, requiring a web developer to make design judgements based on the type of logo used, especially in regards to how the site adapts for mobile devices. This silver design option has been created as a low cost alternative, and in order to achieve it, certain constraints and limitations do apply, yet with the aim that this service will meet the needs of most clients.
If you are happy with the limitations explained below it is a great value way of incorporating your logo into your design
more distinctively, however if you have more precise requirements or simply want more flexibility we would instead recommend our
Gold Design Service.
What is Involved
Although it seems simple, there are quite a few factors to consider when incorporating a logo into this top left area. These include:
- Many logos comprise words as well an image. Search engines can't read this text within the graphic logo, and as this particular section of the website is of special importance
to how well you place on Google, your listing position can be harmed by the simple replacement of heading text for a graphic logo.
It is usually necessary to separate the text from the graphic element and show the words as normal Google friendly text in a font style that is as close
as possible to your preference. If there is a problem matching fonts, there are other methods that can be used.
- Placement is also important, especially as you will typically have words adjacent to graphics. This alignment needs to be as neat as possible,
and in some ways there are 3 different designs to create as we need to plan and design for how the heading looks on a normal screen as well as an iPad and
a smartphone which have narrower screens.
- The final consideration is colouring. The standard styling for Social ColourMax has a block of colour in the heading area, and typically
any attempt to place a logo on it will look untidy and unprofessional. You can't use the colour scheme editor to make this coloured area white as
that causes other parts of the design to become white and effectively disappear. A different approach to colouring is needed.
Our low cost silver design option tackles each of these issues in the following standard way. The designer's first task is to change the design to use an alternative
colouring approach which sets the heading to white as a safe background for logos, and modifies how other elements of the design are
automatically coloured accordingly. Next the logo is inspected and the designer will decide with you on an approach relating to any text
contained to ensure the best results for search engines, before placing your logo and adjacent text in the heading area. Three sets of design rules are applied for
how it shows on wide screens, iPads and smartphones. Finally a new website colour scheme is created, via the colour scheme editor, which matches the key colours from your logo for a harmonious overall effect.
How will it look? What are the limitations
Please use the thumbnails and image browser above to see examples of how your website would look with a logo incorporated into the top left area.
The key limitations to be aware of are:
- The heading area becomes white. For any other colour the Gold Design Service is needed
- Colour adjustments are limited to the options available via the colour scheme editor. These constraints are in fact very similar to what you have at the moment, though some of the colour settings apply to different areas of the design
- Fonts in the heading are limited to those available in the Font Editor available via the Administration Area. If there is a very distinctive
font used in your logo, we would typically suggest keeping the text in the logo and place a subheading adjacent to the logo which
contains important keywords which we want Google to find in the heading
